how to knit a mitered square

Let me start by introducing you to the five stitch types that I believe are at the very heart of knitting! As we know, all knitted fabrics are made using two basic stitches, knit and purl.

Plied yarns may themselves be plied together, producing cabled yarns or multi-stranded yarns. In knitting certain articles of clothing, especially larger ones like sweaters, the final knitted garment will be made of several knitted pieces, with individual sections of the garment knit separately and then sewn together. Heathered yarns contain small amounts of fibre of different colours, while tweed yarns may have greater amounts of different coloured fibres.

Dyeing may be done industrially, by hand or even hand-painted onto the yarn. They are used for knitting socks, hats, and sleeves. When knitting, the yarn ball winder should be used to keep the yarn at an even tension.

The second type of knitting needles are straight, double-pointed knitting needles (also called "dpns"). The dyeing of yarns is a complex art.

Patterns for knitting provide a strong outline and foundation for starting any new knitting project. Be sure to try using other available resources, such as local craft and hobby stores.
