how do you knit a beanie

I wanted to set out some basic knitting in Let me start by introducing you to the five stitch types that I believe are at the very heart of knitting!

The knit stitch is formed by making loops which interweave with one another; one after another. All you need to start knitting are knitting needles, yarn and good patterns or instructions. For comparison, woven garments stretch mainly along one direction (the bias) and not very much, unless they are woven from stretchable material such as Lycra.

Flat knitting, which is done on two straight needles, produces a length of cloth, while circular knitting, which is done on circular or double-pointed needles, produces a seamless tube. Extra curvature can be introduced into knitted garments without seams, as in the heel of a sock; the effect of darts, flares, etc. Double ribbing is the pattern is used for hems and borders for necklines or cuffs of sweaters, socks and mitts.

In general, yarns become stronger with more twist (also called worst), longer fibers and thicker yarns (more fibers); for example, thinner yarns require more twist than do thicker yarns to resist breaking under tension. Before knitting, the knitter will typically transform a hank into a ball where the yarn emerges from the center of the ball; this making the knitting easier by preventing the yarn from becoming easily tangled.

All it consists of is knitting one row, then purling the next, and so on, and so on. But, that's the essence of knitting.
